General Earle G. Wheeler was born in 1908; served in the District of Columbia National Guard (1924-1928); graduated from the United States Military Academy (1932); attended the Infantry School (1937). Paul Donal Harkins (b. May 15, 1904, Boston, Mass.-d. Aug. 21, 1984, Dallas, Tex.), U.S. Army officer, graduated from West Point in 1929. He was Deputy Chief of Staff during World War II to General Patton, served during the Korean War, and was the first Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) commander from 1962 to 1964, the year he retired.
